Review: 2 Cozy Euro-Asian Restos Around Vientiane

La Signature, Vientiane

Ansara

Fine dining from an Ansara Hotel affiliated restaurant. Try the roasted lobsters in garlic and butter along with the risotto or the beef tenderloin in creamy pepper sauce topped with cheese and served with vegetable mille feuille. Accompany these dishes with a wine or other spirit recommended by the F& B Manager himself.

Aside from the a la carte menu, diners on a budget may also choose from a set menu. On Friday nights La Signature has a BBQ buffet that offers a range of mouth-watering dishes, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, pastas and some delectable desserts.

  Xang Khoo

Chocolate Balluchon

This French bistro situated at Nam Phou (The Fountain) offers a range of French and Lao dishes, as well as a wide variety of spirits. The menu is long and so we take the liberty of recommending some of our favorites. Try the Greek salad as a starter. Then move to the popular crepe Campagnarde, a crepe topped with cheese, cream, tomato, bacon and mushroom. All crepes are made from organic buckwheat which is good for those watching their weight or their hearts. The beef fillet with three sauces to choose from - fresh green pepper, red wine and blue cheese is a must try. We strongly recommend the fish larb; (pronounced laap) diced raw fish jumped with a mixture of fresh herbs and local spices served with sticky rice. For dessert try the chocolate Balluchon, a good treat for a sweet tooth. The daily special menu, is indeed special. Xang Khoo does not use MSG or other meat tenderizers, something quite common in Laos.
